Forbidden Planet by Tony Pena

Not personal but business,
the set of circumstances
that brought the orbits
of our planets together
through decades
worth of solar storms
like the links of logic
in a Venn diagram.

With the area of your aura
defined and spoken for,
I can only drop
a throwaway line
into the ether or an ever
so casual glance your way
snuffing sparks to respect
the distance of decorum.

Heaving a Hail Mary hope
that in another time,
place, or even dimension,
I could go all astral awed
Galileo, blowing breaths
of hot poetry to spiral
into space like celestial
script looking for rhymes

to ignite clusters of stars
like jasmine flowers
blooming in the deep
blue velvet of night
with enough passion
to dance the modesty
off a shadowed moon
to trip the light fantastic.
