Skin by Kavita Parwani Talib

Tried to fill into all the crevices
That showed up in Your cracks
temporary hotspots
Where we could seamlessly connect
Without changing networks
Oblivious to this roaming world
This mapping of everything else, and then just, us.
A subset that had a pattern
Like a diligent malleable liquid which was ductile
versatile and adept, we were
Grout, fillers and then sutures

Skin against skin, superficially
But entrenched, deep
That my epidermis did not want to belong to me anymore…
Maybe it was because I wanted to get inside
Your emptiness
And shed mine like a snaky ecdysis
Unwrapped
To match, To show, to see

Raw intimacy
All at once
Forsaking all the old learning
touching a new braille…
Curious and curiouser, together
Momentarily, fuller
Now ready
To restart,
Empty, emptier, vacant.
