At an A.A. Meeting in East Boston by Shepard Kellogg

“there are those of us who treat

our bodies worse than amusement

parks and we don’t know when to

get off the ride”

This I learned from a sallow-faced

electrician whose name I didn’t

bother to learn

even though he said it twice

during his time

to talk and I didn’t point out

his was an imperfect metaphor;

I go to the nearest college

across from the blue line

civic center stop I know about

these things

And I’m only here to make my

girlfriend happy because

my only problem is knowledge

so I might grab a drink

after this
