Brain Freeze by Nolcha Fox

As doctors talks of Mother’s health

degrade from bad to worse,
I hear the words, but they don’t stay,
they fly right out the window.
I stick my sorry, soggy brain
into a plastic bag,
and stuff it in the freezer
until it comprehends
it must accept the winds of chaos.

In Memoriam: Sarah Erman lived a long life full of love given, love received and incredible experiences – by these measures, she died a wealthy woman. She felt healthy for almost the entirety of her 90 years. She walked and did squats daily, played piano (including accompanying the choir at the San Diego Unitarian Church), hung out with friends, organized regular Zoom meetings with cousins and friends in other parts of the country, took photographs for her mobile home park monthly newsletter, made beautiful greeting cards, and read. She took risks (for example, she traveled to Bali alone and spent a month there) and followed her own path. She lived the life she wanted.
