I'll bring order to something because I have none elsewise;
but really there's none,
as we're lost in the spinning wheel of Id.
Gut dysbiota tells me the chocolate chip cookies are calling my name
& I like playing games.
To eat or not to eat, that is the question,
ask those who dig cakes out of the trash.
Oh what we'll do for a sweet treat
lost in our sweaty skin sacks of desire.
Anyway, how much is me,
& how much is psychosis calling the shots,
or the untold-illions of tiny, hungry foes
pleading, imploring me
to eat this or that
because they need it, want it, and lo!,
killing me slowly,
slyly they sneak,
while softly they speak.
Their metabolites poisoning my parasitized self
& truly wonders never cease.
The science to know beyond all of our reach.

About the Poet:
Jessica Skyfield tries to navigate her individual place in the world given the chaos that swirls around us all given our modern lives, our small spots in the system, as many of us try and make a difference. Her poetry hinges on this idea of self versus the larger whole and wanting to carve out a place of peace, kindness, and wholeness. She has a book titled Condensed Chronology available at B&N and Amazon. Search her name on the internet and find some other poems, too. 🙂
