I see you
the pain between your ribs
the tireless pursuit of perfection
I remember
measuring my worth in bones
reaching down and pressing
the jutting hips
to remind myself
what I saw inflated in the mirror
wasn't real
I wasn't real
It feels like control at first
transcending calories
being superhuman
ignoring the lethargy
the constant cold
the brain fog impacting your mood
sometimes you break down and cry
unnamed emotions and shame
the feelings we're starving
so we don't have to face them
overflowing
I'm sorry
I see you
